Doing your own thing?

If none of those are to your taste, then there are plenty of other things that you can do in and around Birmingham to ensure that you have a credible alibi. We have included some suggestions below.

City Centre

  • Bullring shopping centre - visit the UK's largest city centre based shopping centre, which is packed with shops, restaurants and entertainment.
  • Museum of the Jewellery Quarter - step back in time to Smith & Pepper’s last working day, where original tools, machinery, and live demonstrations bring the factory’s stories to life. Visit Miss Olive’s office to discover how the factory was run and hear the tales behind the people who worked here.
  • West Midlands Police Museum - remain in theme with the rest of the weekend, and transport yourself back in time as you learn about two centuries of policing history.
  • Thinktank Science Museum - an award winning science museum located at Millenium Point.
  • The Coffin Works - experience how this old Jewellery Quarter firm once operated, producing some of the world’s finest coffin furniture, including the fittings for the funerals of Winston Churchill, Princess Diana and the Queen Mother.
  • SeaLife - visit over 60 displays of marine life, and see the UK's first and only sea otters.
  • Legoland Discovery Centre - if you love LEGO, visit the Ultimate Indoor LEGO Playground.

Near the University and Selly Oak

The University of Birmingham is a less than 10 minute train journey from the city centre.

  • Winterbourne House and Gardens - experience an Edwardian family home and one of Britain’s best botanical gardens.
  • Lapworth Museum of Geology - This museum on the University campus is free to enter and is like a mini Natural History museum, good for anyone who likes looking at cool rocks. They also have a Dinosaur skeleton!

Further Afield

  • Cadbury World - located a short train ride away in Bournville, Cadbury World is a must for all chocolate lovers. You can even snag a bargain in the factory shop.
